Do Morals Matter?

The United States is always talking about the importance of ethics and morals when it comes to foreign relations. The communist who said the below quote has a very good point.

One must say bluntly that it is an unattractive sight when, with a view to smearing the Soviet people, leaders of such a country as the United States resort to what almost amounts to obscenities alternating with hypocritical preaching about morals and humanism.

Yuri Andropov

We tell other nations how to fight war without hurting civilians, which is a good thing, and we don’t allow carpet bombing. But, we are willing to abort millions of our own babies. More American babies have been killed by ourselves, than  Jews by Hitler, who was trying to exterminate a race of people. We are so hypocritical; we fight wars to end attacks on us, but we’ll legally kill ourselves. That makes no sense whatsoever. We’ve killed more babies by ourselves than Americans killed during 9/11. Think about how many great men and women have been killed because of abortion. I don’t care if some of those people would’ve had mental issues; they’re still humans. We have no right to judge morals and ethics when we legally allow abortion. Baby parts are being sold by planned parenthood.  We are doing atrocious things that are just as bad as many things we condemn. We don’t believe in capitol punishment, but we will kill innocent babies because they were an “accident.” Don’t tell me that. I’m pretty sure you know what happens when opposite genders join. That’s like throwing a baseball straight at someone and saying that it’s an accident when it hits them. Think about it; that baby that just got aborted could’ve been somebody who did something great.  That baby was created by God, not by accident.  We have children’s hospitals to help with such things as cancer, but as soon as a baby seems to have a defect, we kill it. There is no way to excuse killing of babies, no matter what the circumstances.

Want to prevent abortions? FIX POVERTY, so no woman will need one! You do understand it’s the poor who overwhelmingly seek them, right? Also, teach sex ed in the elementary grades and make contraceptives free and available to anyone seeking them. That’s how those “socialist” Scandinavian and European nations all achieve lower unwanted pregnancy rates than ours.

Acting ethically to solve problems isn’t always so simple, is it?

Being ethical is not simple, but it is right. I do not believe that handing out free contraceptive devices, or teaching sex-ed in elementary grades are the correct answers. I believe if we teach kids the danger of sexually transmitted diseases, and teach them that fornication (pre-marital sex), is wrong; We will have some of the problem fixed. How does being poor give you the right to murder? If being poor gives me the right to abort a baby, does it also give me the right to steal food? Using sex as a recreational type of activity before marriage is just not biblical. I think we all know that when a man and a woman join together that babies can be formed.

And I will also tell you that socialism is a failure. If socialism was a success, we would see more progress in those countries. I actually have a draft about socialism that I will post soon.

Thank you for taking time to read my post and comment on it.

Your thinking displays evidence of a lack of real world experience. Problems that overlap cultural differences, religious differences and economic inequality are not as simple as abortion=murder.

Poor women have to face the possibility that if they bear another child, the family will be hungrier or even lose their housing. Poor women sometimes get raped by their husbands, yet if they get pregnant, the husbands will abuse them physically for “not taking care of it”. And adoption isn’t a viable option because most (8 out of 10) who seek to adopt will not accept minority children. On top of that, some states resist allowing gay couples to adopt. The unwanted children get stuck in the foster care system until 18 when the states stop paying for their care. Then they become prime targets for human traffickers and gang recruiters.

I work as a medical imaging technologist currently. I’ve been a medical assistant and did some social work too, in a wide variety of hospitals and clinics. I’ve seen these problems for decades, both before abortion was legal and after. Having abortion illegal never stopped it or reduced the demand. It only made it more dangerous for the women and whoever performed the procedures.

Too many Americans are woefully undereducated about sex. I’ve stopped counting the number of times an upset patient insisted they couldn’t possibly be pregnant because xyz (ignorant reason). In most states, sex ed consists of THREE WHOLE DAYS of lecture, to high school students that are old enough they may already be HAVING sex! Or worse, they get that abstinence-based nonsense that has been proven over and over not to work.

I didn’t mean to bait you over the word socialism. It’s only that those countries that have found better health care solutions than we have also happen to use socialist medical practices. You can say socialism is a failure, but consider these facts. They have longer life expectancy, lower infant mortality, and their abortion rates are half what ours is. Their health care costs less, and everyone gets coverage without exception. There’s no reason we couldn’t learn from their successes, and at least move a few steps closer to what they do – except for our own resistance to face facts.

Well, okay, I’ll address the poverty issue. I understand that poverty and abuse makes circumstances tough, and that’s an issue that our country needs to address. Abstinence is the correct answer. And when it comes to rape or molestation I still believe that the baby should be allowed to live. Every life is a blessing from God, and should be treated as such. I understand that people can have physical or mental issues, but the beauty of capitalism is that you can improve your living conditions if you have the work ethic to do it. Socialism is the equal sharing of misery. I think it’s a good thing that they don’t allow homosexuals to adopt, because it is not a stable environment for a child to grow up in. And as I said before, circumstances don’t give you the right to do wrong. I don’t have very much real world experience, but I do know that you should always do what’s right.

Socialism is funded by the people who will work, to give money to the people who don’t.

In a perfect world communism would be great, but our world is not perfect. One person gets all the wealth and powers while everyone else starves to death. As for abortion and sex Ed. People are teaching sex why do you think we have thirteen year old pregnant because people push push push sex! All that’s ever talked about is sex, not the danger of it, not the risks it involves, not the serious commitment it is. So once you’ve crossed that line and find your self pregnant you need to do the adult thing. You wanted to play adult so now you get to be one because your a mother or a father. And being an adult does not mean cowering in a corner and getting “rid” of a baby just like it were garbage. What if you had been aborted. Stop putting up all these excuses let’s make it personal! What would happen if you had been a aborted?
As for poverty, Americans use that term very loosely. Do you even know what poverty is? Go to Mexico, Cuba, Africa, then try and tell me “you’re” poor.

To Invisible Mikey – I think your comments show more of a problem than they lead to a solution. Let me give you a few thoughts from someone with some “real world” experience. I am an EMT as well as a law enforcement officer. I have been working with young people for over 30 years in over 10 states. I’ve lived in the urban city of Detroit as well as small town America in Montana. I’ve personally dealt with the issues of suicide, drugs, rape and abuse. I am also a foster parent to those in the system so I’ve seen and heard about everything you can think of.

My first question regarding your comment about the “poor” problem of abortion and that ever so menacing nonsense of abstinence is this – how many virgins do you know that have gotten pregnant? I only know of one and that is the Virgin Mary and she was poor and didn’t get an abortion. I think you will have to agree with me that the only 100% sure way not to get pregnant is to not have sex, any other so called “birth-control” has been found to not be 100% effective both for pregnancies and disease.

On the issue of a woman being raped and becoming pregnant beyond their control is a sad issue I agree with you – this is wrong and the perpetrator should be severely punished for what they have done. But let me ask you, how far are you willing to carry your line of reasoning? If you want to destroy a living baby because of a terrible situation that caused it – are you willing to destroy your car because someone dents your fender? Are you willing to kill yourself because you cut your finger or break your leg. You may say this is silly to even compare the two, but is it really? A bad situation has lead to a bad outcome and is both inconvenient and will cost you money, so “just take care of it”.
Where does your line of reasoning end? – with what we are now seeing in our own society, where just a few months ago a woman who killed her baby of just a few days old was let go because the judged ruled a few day old baby is not yet a human…how far down this road are you willing to go?
Either life is life from the beginning and needs to be protected from start to finish or everyone gets to make up their own rules of who gets protection and who doesn’t….sounds like survival of the fittest to me… where did we hear that from?
